The Kilted Bee

New bees

Tuesday 13th June 2017

This evening we went to collect our new bees from the Peeblesshire Beekeepers Association's apiary. The Nuc was made up a few weeks ago to control a colony that was preparing to swarm. It has the old queen, but she is laying well and the new colony is building up vigorously.

The feeling we had whilst driving home with them in the car must have been rather similar to that of new parents driving home from the hospital with a new baby: very careful with every undulation of the road feeling like a huge pothole and every other road user seeming aggressively oblivious to our fragile cargo.

We placed the Nuc carefully in our apiary and hope the bees will come to feel at home. We will feed them tomorrow evening.
