The Kilted Bee

Swarmed?

Sunday 13th August 2017

Having just arrived back from holiday yesterday, we were keen to look in the hive and see how the bees had been getting on whilst we were away. However, when we did we were dismayed to find sealed Queen Cells and Queen Aphrodite nowhere to be seen. The disappointing conclusion must be that the bees have swarmed whilst we were away.

I suppose we should be gratified that the bees think they have done so well in only a couple of months that they could and should reproduce, but it is hard to feel that satisfaction!

We thought that with the new colony only building up, lots of foundation to draw out, 2 empty supers on for them to fill and it being August they would have enough to occupy their collective mind. Apparently not.

It would be nice to know where Aphrodite and her cohort have gone. Hopefully we will come across a feral colony at some point in the future and recognise them.
