Dealing with the hive having swarmed

Sunday 13th August 2017

After an afternoon of discussion and reading we came up with a strategy for dealing with the situation we discovered earlier today of the hive having swarmed whilst we were on holiday.

As it is the middle of August already, we are a little concerned that there is only quite a short time left to get new queens mated before the autumn. So to give us a better chance of having at least 1 viable colony going into the winter we have made up a new Nuc with one of the capped queen cells from the hive.

In the hive itself we have removed all of the remaining queen cells apart from one. Hopefully, this gives us 2 chances at raising and mating a new queen before the winter.

Now we have to wait. Fingers crossed!
