The Kilted Bee

Oxalic acid varroa treatment

Tuesday 19th December 2017

Today we treated the bees for varroa with oxalic acid. We used the dribbled technique and proportions from Dave Cushman.

As the hives were open briefly, we also took the opportunity to place some fondant on top of the frames even though the hives still seemed quite weighty after the autumn syrup feeding.

As beginners, it is difficult to know how much feeding is required. We are erring on the side of 'more is better'. Losing our bees to starvation in their first winter is not an attractive proposition.
