We harvested the super from our hive today. The
frames were full and well capped.
In our enthusiasm to extract as much as possible, I think we may have turned the handle too fast, so some of the comb looked a bit ragged after if came out of the extractor. I am sure the bees will repair it.
The honey looks beautiful and tastes amazing: a rich golden colour with a flavour that is delicate and floral to begin with but then with quite a strong and zingy aftertaste that lingers.
We extracted about 4kg in total and are very pleased with that for our first season considering we only started with a Nuc of bees at the beginning of June and we lost a swarm and some cast swarms. Well done the bees!
I wonder what our friends and family will be getting for presents this Christmas?
